My intention in building this website is to find broader interest in my work and hopefully more excuses to divert time to painting. Any feedback helps - as does your support in passing on this web address to friends.
I am self-taught in oil painting and find time for it around full-time work in architectural practice in London. Growing up in Edinburgh, Scotland, I have always been involved with the mountains and oceans through paragliding, mountaineering or sea kayaking. I have learnt to look at these landscapes with the influence of various painters - particularly the recently-late Welsh master of the palette knife Sir Kyffin Williams (1918-2007) but also various leaders in the Scottish Impressionist movement, amongst them William McTaggart RSA (1835-1910) and William Marshall Brown (1863-1936).
I tend to start with small sketches in oil, completed outdoors at 8" x 10" (small enough for the painting gear to be thrown into a hill pack on the off-chance of painting during the day). If they're up to it, I then work the sketches up to full size canvasses, although increasingly these sell before I find the chance.
The
website is going to grow as I have time to add more work. As well as additional preparatory work & photography, I am working on the following new sections:
